20 September is celebrated each day as Day of Oilmen in Azerbaijan. It is the professional holiday of oil and gas workers in the country. The Azerbaijani oil workers get to celebrate their honourable work once again. The professional holiday was established by a decree of the national leader of Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, dated 16 August 2001.
The 400-page contract written in 4 languages was named the ‘Contract of the Century’ for its historical, political, and international significance. This agreement is rightly considered the foundation of Azerbaijan’s energy strategy, founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev, as it turned Azerbaijan into a world oil exporter. Azerbaijan has since established itself as a reliable oil exporter in the international market.
